Blog #3 - Go Ask Alice | Conflict

In my previous blog I left off with Alice being returned home, after falling into another trip-filled-trip. Once Alice had gotten home, and resettled back into school, she started running into some problems along the route of bettering herself. She was pulled out of class on the first day to have a chat with the Principal, and he told her that he knew about what she'd been up to lately with all the drugs and running away. And if that wasn't enough for her, she was put at the blame for one of the girls ( Jan ) getting caught doing LSD by the School. So, this put Alice at the top of the "Do not Acknowledge list"for the School. She was getting bullied by Jan and a lot of her friends, and with her well known rep for running away and doing drugs, not much of the regulars wanted anything to do with her either. Alice tried to not let this get to her by occupying herself with various task such as; reading, studying, baking, and walking around town. But in all of this down-fall Alice managed to come across a nice boy at the local University Library named Joel. Joel for the first bit of knowing Alice had no clue of her past, as she was still really embarrassed of the whole situation, so she just hid it for a while. Joel was often really busy, as he had to work three to five nights a week for 9PM-7AM as a janitor at his School. So Alice found times in between to go see him.

Tensions at School however weren't calming down for  herself, as Jan had repeatedly kept reminding her that she'd at some point, "Get back at you!" She was even approached by a younger girl than her, and she said "You might as well just join us this weekend to trip, or well get you somehow." This even gave me the chills. Alice of course said no, and went on her way trying to ignore all of them. They eventually did actually drug Alice about two weeks later, putting Acid on chocolate that they must have purposely put out for Alice after lacing it. She didn't see it coming, and so it was much worse for her. Even throughout the whole trip she couldn't even recognize she was drugged until afterwards. The following day Jan and her friend had told on Alice for what she did, and also accused her of trying to sell it at her School. Since Alice was a known past addict, things weren't looking good for her. She was brought before a judge, and after Jan and her friends testimony, Alice was sent to an "Insane Asylum". Alice couldn't believe the whole situation, and was honestly pretty shocked. Her dad was working round the clock to try and get the girls to restate the lies that they had said to the judge.

Alice had met some people in there who had some pretty incredible stories. One was a boy about to graduate Highschool, and go to University, but got the idea with his friends to sniff glue once, then evetually got himself to the point where he got a Pharmacy job just to steal pills. And the other girl she'd spent most of her time with, was a thirteen year-old prostitute, also hooked on lots of different drugs. This was very eye-opening to Alice. After about two weeks in the hospital, Alice's dad actually got Jan and her friend to restate themselves, and Alice was getting out. Once she got back, she really wasn't mad at anybody, she just focused on her grades, met some straight friends ( not on drugs ), and spent more time with Joel. Very good read.

Question

Do you think this was a good ending to the book? If not, how else do you think it should've ended?

  1. I think the ending is extreme but definitely shows how much trouble drugs can get you in.
