Blog #3 - Go Ask Alice | Conflict

In my previous blog I left off with Alice being returned home, after falling into another trip-filled-trip. Once Alice had gotten home, and resettled back into school, she started running into some problems along the route of bettering herself. She was pulled out of class on the first day to have a chat with the Principal, and he told her that he knew about what she'd been up to lately with all the drugs and running away. And if that wasn't enough for her, she was put at the blame for one of the girls ( Jan ) getting caught doing LSD by the School. So, this put Alice at the top of the "Do not Acknowledge list"for the School. She was getting bullied by Jan and a lot of her friends, and with her well known rep for running away and doing drugs, not much of the regulars wanted anything to do with her either. Alice tried to not let this get to her by occupying herself with various task such as; reading, studying, baking, and walking around town. But in all of this down-fall Alice managed to come across a nice boy at the local University Library named Joel. Joel for the first bit of knowing Alice had no clue of her past, as she was still really embarrassed of the whole situation, so she just hid it for a while. Joel was often really busy, as he had to work three to five nights a week for 9PM-7AM as a janitor at his School. So Alice found times in between to go see him.

Tensions at School however weren't calming down for  herself, as Jan had repeatedly kept reminding her that she'd at some point, "Get back at you!" She was even approached by a younger girl than her, and she said "You might as well just join us this weekend to trip, or well get you somehow." This even gave me the chills. Alice of course said no, and went on her way trying to ignore all of them. They eventually did actually drug Alice about two weeks later, putting Acid on chocolate that they must have purposely put out for Alice after lacing it. She didn't see it coming, and so it was much worse for her. Even throughout the whole trip she couldn't even recognize she was drugged until afterwards. The following day Jan and her friend had told on Alice for what she did, and also accused her of trying to sell it at her School. Since Alice was a known past addict, things weren't looking good for her. She was brought before a judge, and after Jan and her friends testimony, Alice was sent to an "Insane Asylum". Alice couldn't believe the whole situation, and was honestly pretty shocked. Her dad was working round the clock to try and get the girls to restate the lies that they had said to the judge.

Alice had met some people in there who had some pretty incredible stories. One was a boy about to graduate Highschool, and go to University, but got the idea with his friends to sniff glue once, then evetually got himself to the point where he got a Pharmacy job just to steal pills. And the other girl she'd spent most of her time with, was a thirteen year-old prostitute, also hooked on lots of different drugs. This was very eye-opening to Alice. After about two weeks in the hospital, Alice's dad actually got Jan and her friend to restate themselves, and Alice was getting out. Once she got back, she really wasn't mad at anybody, she just focused on her grades, met some straight friends ( not on drugs ), and spent more time with Joel. Very good read.

Question

Do you think this was a good ending to the book? If not, how else do you think it should've ended?

Blog #2 - Go Ask Alice

Blog #2 - Go Ask Alice

In my previous blog I discussed with you the life of the main character in my book, Alice. She's a high school student going down the path of drugs, sex, and running away. I ended the first blog with the question, "The lack of parental supervision will make them more addicts than ever before. Do you agree, or disagree?" Them was referring to Alice and her friend Chris who she ran away to San Francisco with. If you agreed with that question, you were very correct. Once they had moved to S.F. they had found a new group of users within about three weeks. When they started using again, they were almost immediately hooked. After a couple weeks of doing Acid, and Heroin every other night, Alice and Chris had once again hated the fact they were right back where they were before moving to S.F. So, they thought quitting their jobs, moving to a new town, and starting their own store would be a better opportunity somehow. After they'd quit their jobs, Alice had started using pretty much all day every day. She'd met a group of kids headed North to see a nice village, and all along the way they were using as well. By the time she'd made it to the location her and her new friends were heading to, she could find any of them. So after about another two weeks of using, sleeping on the streets, and begging, she went to a Church to try to get help. She met with a janitor who ultimately ended up getting in touch with her parent's, and they were on their way to get her.
Once back, Alice had vowed to never to drugs again, start getting better grades, and mean more to her family.

Do you think that Alice will succumb to the same demise as last time, making empty promises to her self, or do you think that Alice will stay on track?

Blog #1 - Go Ask Alice

We we're given the task to summarize our recently distributed books, so here's mine.  'Go Ask Alice,' is a novel about a young girl in high school going down a nasty road of drugs, popularity, and will not recover. At the beginning of the novel she is in her home town, but the family was moving pretty far away soon. After she is forced to move and leave her friends behind, she gets very depressed and doesn't make much new friends at her new school. Once Summer came around, Alice wanted to visit her Grandparents in her home town for a few weeks. Once there, Alice was re-introduced to a new group of friends who were as she claimed to be the 'popular kids'. These kids had drugged her the first night meeting her with LSD, and then she started to enjoy the things those kids did. After a couple weeks of doing drugs, then regretting it, Alice wen't home for school.

Once back at school, she met a new friend named Chris. Chris had a similar kind of past, so she was able to relate and understand Alice more easily. A few months into the school year, Alice now hating her home life, Chris had convinced Alice that it was a good idea to drop out of school, and start a new life in San Francisco together. They'd left to avoid being tempted by friends like they used to have, who were always doing drugs. But I fear that once they do find friends like their old ones, the lack of parental supervision will make them more addicts than ever before. Do you agree, or disagree?
